Honey & Chamomile Shampoo Bar
I always ensure that people are aware that they may have an adjustment period for their hair to rebalance the natural oils. Imagine an uninformed customer got one to use on holiday after years of using commercial products and their hair did need to adjust - holiday ruined! Honesty and ethics will always be my priority. I would rather lose a sale than have an uninformed customer.
Why switch to natural shampoo bars?
No plastic and zero waste. Shampoo bars last much longer than plastic filled liquid shampoos and a little goes a long way.
Some people have no adjustment issues. Great. Many do though and if you have used commercial shampoos there can be a build up and residue to deal with.
Hair is individual even within the same family. The transition period can be from a few days to a week and up to a month. Our scalps produce excess sebum in reaction to using commercial shampoo and the natural, healthy oils are stripped away.
You may notice a lack of that silky feeling after rinsing but that is silicons in commercial products that are articially coating your hair.
Don't give up! I switched to my shampoo bars last year as I wanted to endorse them personally and my hair felt awful after the first wash. After almost a month I am rewarded with naturally healthy hair and a plastic free bathroom. Be patient and give your hair the time it needs to adjust - you'll never look back then.
If you live in an area with soft water you are lucky. Hard water has a high mineral content. Hair shafts are made up of little scales and hard water makes the stand up - this makes the hair feel rough and you must ensure to rinse out all the soap. Remember, a little goes a long way.
An Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) rinse should help. Simply add one part ACV to 4 parts water and use as a rinse. Don't leave on the hair simply pur through then rinse. This helps to smooth the hair and close down the hair scales. Use the ACV that has 'with the mother' on it. If you prefer you could use another vinegar type or lemon juice. Cold water is even better in a rinse.
Soak your hair. Shorter hair may be fine with the bar applied directly - I prefer to lather up the bar in my hands and then apply massaging in with my fingers. (I have long and very thick hair).
STORE your bar where it can dry out between use to avoid gloopy messes and to enable it to last longer.
